What is Electrolysis?
Electrolysis is the only form of hair removal that is FDA recognized as being truly permanent.
During electrolysis, we insert a tiny metal probe into one hair follicle at a time, then zap it with a quick flash of heat, and finally remove the hair by tweezing it out.
- Insertion – I insert a tiny probe made of metal into the hair follicle. I choose the size of the probe based on the size of your hair. Most brands of probes have 5 or 6 different sizes, and that means there are sizes for all kinds of hair. We can see the hair follicles because we use surgical magnifying glasses that can zoom in up close on small patches of skin.
- Zap – Once I insert the probe in the hair follicle, I push my foot peddle to deliver the zap that kills the hair. I use thermolysis, which means I am zapping the hair quickly with strong heat. I choose the intensity carefully, so that it’s as tolerable as possible while still killing the hair. We also use insulated probes, which only deliver the heat at the very end of the probe. This means less pain because the heat and electricity don’t spread out, only hitting exactly where it’s needed.
- Remove – If we try to remove a zapped hair with tweezers, the hair should come out easily.
